Kids read books and take comprehension tests on them. Each book has a point value assigned to it depending on length and difficulty. The school has awards for the kids with the most points at the end of the year. Brenna won a trophy for having the most points in her class, a medal and a $50 gift certificate to Toys-R-Us for the most points out of all the first grade classes and a plaque and another $50 gift certificate for the most points in the whole school! She scored 314.9 points. Most books in her level were worth .5 - 1 point each. Needlessly to say, we are busting with pride over our little reading machine! Her teacher tested her reading level at the end of the year, and she scored a 6.3 which is sixth grade in the third month of school. |
