Recently, we found out that we have a feral cat colony living in our
woods. We started to keep a record of the cats that we saw and started to
feed them on our deck. Our original count was eleven, but since then, one
has been hit by a car and one has disappeared. With the help of the
Knoxville Feral Cat Friends ( KFCF), we have started a trap, neuter and
release program. So far, four of our little furry friends have been
fixed and given shots. Our little gray tabby friend has never been seen
again since he was neutered.( I wonder why?!?)

Our little uninvited guests! |

One of
our favorites is a little long-haired calico named Puff who has given us a wee
little surprise. We had a cat carrier on our deck and it was
raining. On Saturday, April 23rd, Erin noticed that Puff was in the
carrier. When we looked closer, we saw blood on the towel. We quietly closed the
door, trapping her inside. When we took her into the bathroom, we saw that
she had two teensy weensy kittens with her! Before it was all over, Puff
had given birth to five beautiful kittens. She had two dark calicos, two grays,
and one orange. We are fostering the momma and kittens until they can be
put up for adoption. Puff will then be spayed and returned to the colony
as she is completely wild. She is the last girl in the colony to be
spayed, so hopefully, there will be no more babies born in the wild.
